Quakers, also called Friends, are a historically Christian group whose formal name is the Religious Society of Friends. Members of the various Quaker movements are all generally united by their belief in the ability of each human being to experientially access the light within, or, “that of God in everyone.” We have Quakers here in the Joliet Diocese. Quaker pastor, Philip Gully, recently wrote a book called, “If the Church Were Christian.” It’s a book on spirituality that is sometimes critical of people who call themselves Christians. I wonder if you would agree, or disagree, with his opinion of what is emerging in Christianity today.
